Our Word is Our Bond

Precious parents, when we tell our child that we are going to do something–whether it’s play a game with them or give them a consequence for poor behavior–and we do not do it, we are teaching them that we cannot be trusted. We should be the people that they can ALWAYS trust, because we are where they first learn honesty and security. If we do not follow though on what we say when it comes to our children, we are breaking their trust and compromising our integrity in ways that will undoubtedly affect our relationship with them in a negative way. As my mom often told me, “Say what you mean and mean what you say.” If we cannot do this, it is better for us to be quiet.
